I know of Moller’s Skycar that can fly, but flying bike was a surprise for me and I guess will be a surprise for you as well! An interesting article over at Neatorama steered us towards this awesome flying machine invented by former test pilot...

holy ****!!!! I think the fact that you can shut the engine off in the middle of the air and still land safely will make this model much more likey to become wide spread than any other model so far.
This is an autogyro. You can easily find construction plans on the web! The top rotor is refered to as a rotating wing and is not powered in flight.
imagine the number of accidents on the road. Now imagine the number of deaths from accidents in the air. People are not good drivers. Thats one reason flying cars will never take off.

You mean like the helicopters, autogyros, and planes that can do the same thing? They won’t be widespread because it requires a pilots license and that requires some level of intelligence, which is obviously lacking in the US.

The only way this will take off if it can qualify as an ’ultralight’ aircraft, which means you don’t need a pilots license to fly.
The governing regulation in the United States is FAR 103, which specifies an ”ultralight” as a single seat vehicle of less than 5 US gallons (19 L) fuel capacity, empty weight of less than 254 pounds (115 kg), a top speed of 55 knots (102 km/h), a maximum stall speed not exceeding 24 knots (45 km/h).
My guess is that this comes very close to qualifying, and if the air-speed is reduced from 70 to 55mph it would qualify.

Just another variation on the autogyro. The morons who reported this as a breakthrough are,...er...morons.
I would love to know how he was allowed to patent this seeing as it has been around sincelikely before he was born. Its a simple autogyro just do a search. and its not a suitable motorcycle. I can’t wait till some pedestrian walks stumbles or falls through that prop and the lawsuits begin. For a novel invention I would not be impressed unless he used POWERED wheels so the prop was only used in the air. and NO flight is totally safe. wait till that main bearing fails at 5000ft. :-)
